Curhat Research Paper

Studying at Monash University

Hi guys!

I talked about the differences between studying at Indonesia and Australian uni here.  it was about how the lecturers greet us, how do we should call lecturer, some rules including attendance list, coming late to the class, and how to dress up, and about the reading list. Now I’d like to explain more detail about my experiences at Monash University (so far).

1. Library

Firstly, it is the library. Monash has several libraries and you may visit the page here. I study at Monash Clayton where there are three libraries here, that is Matheson Library, Law Library, and Hargrave-Andrew Library. The library which I’ve visited the most is Matheson. Continue reading

When Intercultural Communication Intertwined within a Group Project

To be honest, because of that one person. My group member consists of me, R (from Australia), and J (from China). We have to culturally constructed concepts or practices for the assignment. R is deaf, so she decided to write about sign names. I talked about the act of hand kissing in Java. Then, J was about to write about Chinese religion. We need to record our conversation as the data, and then analyze it.

I and J had different perception in the very first meeting. In the first meeting, we didn’t have an interpreter and J so freaking confused about how we communicated to R, recorded the data, and so on. I said to her that we could have written communication as a valid data. I knew this because I was an interpreter back then, I communicated with deaf people, and their written communication works as valid as their sign language. But she refused. She believed that written communication won’t work. So, we spent our first meeting ineffectively.  Continue reading

Maka nikmat Tuhanmu yang manakah yang kamu dustakan?

facebook.com_2014-06-23_14-49-36

Entah saya mau bilang seperti apa. Jujur, saya agak kaget dia melecehkan ayat AL-qur’an seperti itu.

Kenapa kamu nggak berhenti aja kuliah, langsung kerja, ngga bakal bingung mikirin tugas kan? simple. Tugas kuliah itu sebenarnya untuk kita juga. Mikir. Buat apa kita kuliah. Kalau kuliah pasti dapat tugas. Ngga mau tugas, berhenti aja.

Gemes aku sama dia. Bisa-bisanya dia mikir kayak gitu. Continue reading
